In partnership with various Nova Scotia school boards, the StFX Faculty of Education offers concentrations in program areas of identified need. These concentrations provide groups of teachers with opportunities to pursue learning together as they build their capacity to provide leadership for the improvement of education within their school board. Upon completion of the program students will receive a degree in Curriculum & Instruction or Administration & Policy.

In order for students to receive a concentration, they must complete the sequence of courses as outlined in the concentration information flyers posted below.

Update on July 2025 Delivery Mode

The first two weeks of the program (Education 534: Introduction to the Foundations of Education) during the July 2025 summer session will be in person on campus. Information on dates and accommodations coming soon.


Curriculum & Instruction:

The Curriculum and Instruction Stream is designed to support the professional and academic learning of practicing educators who are seeking advanced study in relation to all aspects of educational curriculum. The program aims to provide students with opportunities to explore the complexity of three main areas of curriculum:

  • the planned curriculum
  • the enacted curriculum
  • the impact of this enacted curriculum upon learners (the curriculum as lived)

The required core courses in the curriculum and instruction stream are designed to explore both the theoretical and practical elements of the planned, enacted and lived curriculum.

Students may choose to specialize further in subject fields of the public-school curriculum by applying for an offered concentration in the areas below:

Administration & Policy:

The Educational Administration & Policy Stream is designed to support the professional and academic learning of practicing educators who are seeking advanced study in relation to all aspects of educational leadership. The program aims to provide students with opportunities to explore the complexity of three main areas of administration:

  • Administration and Policy theories and practices
  • instructional leadership
  • legal and policy dimensions of administration

The required core courses in the educational Administration & Policy stream are designed to explore both the theoretical and practical elements of educational leadership and policy.

Students may choose to specialize further in leadership by applying for an offered concentration in areas below:
