Promoting equity, empowering students
The Jeannine Deveau Educational Equity Endowment was established in 2015 through the generosity of the esteemed StFX alumna Jeannine Deveau, Class of 1944. Her original gift of $8 million helped StFX remove barriers to postsecondary education facing Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik and African Nova Scotian students. In 2024, the university welcomed news of a second multi-million dollar gift, forming the backbone of efforts to make StFX an equitable university for all. The gift also enables StFX to create two new, exciting centres on campus: the Deveau Centre for Indigenous Governance and Social Justice and the Black Student Success Centre.
Funding Opportunities through the Jeannine Deveau Educational Equity Endowment Fund
Through the Deveau Fund, eligible StFX students can access a variety of financial support programs. These include:
- Jeannine Deveau Scholarships of $20,000 ($4,000 renewable for 5 years) for incoming students.
- Ann Sherman Education Fund supporting incoming graduate students in the Faculty of Education.
- Limited Bursaries of up to $500 for eligible current students who demonstrate financial need.
- Emergency Grants providing financial assistance to current students who encounter emergency costs related to their studies.
