How to access our services
- All students must register with Pomelo before they can book their appointments online. Please register for Pomelo here.
- Once you have registered for Pomelo, you can book appointments here.
- When you book online, you will see all available appointments for the next 7 days. We also reserve several appointments every day for same-day access. Each weekday morning at 7:30 am new appointments open up, including the same-day access appointments for that day. If you try to book online and it looks like nothing is available, check back at 7:30 am the next day and the newly opened appointments will be showing.
- When you receive an email reminder for a booked appointment, please check carefully for the time zone indicated in your reminder. The correct time for your appointment is Nova Scotia time (Atlantic Standard Time); not the time zone of your home province, as may be indicated in your reminder.
- If you need to cancel your appointment, you have several options: 1) cancel in Pomelo, 2) call 902-867-2263, 3) stop by the Health and Counselling Centre, or 4) email @email.
- If you wish to cancel a scheduled appointment, we require 24 hours notification prior to your scheduled appointment time, or a late fee of $50.00 will be charged to your student account. This allows us to offer that space to another student who needs it; please help us in not wasting any of our valuable health care resources.
- If you have trouble registering or booking an online appointment, please call the Health and Counselling Centre at 902-867-2263 during office hours for assistance.
Medical Health
For any medical-related concerns, your first appointment will be an Intake Assessment with one of our Nurses. When booking these appointments online, choose the “Medical Intake” option, either virtual or in-person. The Nurse will speak with you privately about your health concern, and after carefully listening and evaluating your needs she will recommend appropriate follow-up service(s) in our clinic and/or other community-based or online resources. This may include an appointment with a physician or a specialized nurse. Appointments for seasonal flu vaccines and immunization forms can be booked directly without an Intake Assessment.
Mental Health
There are two options for accessing mental health support at the Health and Counselling Centre. One of these options is Same Day Counselling appointments which can be booked online or by stopping by the Health and Counselling Centre in-person during business hours. For more complex mental health concerns, book a Mental Health Intake appointment when you schedule an appointment online. As always, our services are self-referral only, meaning students must contact us directly to book their own appointments. For more information about our mental health services, click the “Book a Mental Health Appointment” button below.
Sexual Health
Appointments for sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing can be booked directly online or in person, without an Intake Assessment. For other sexual health concerns, please book a “Medical Intake” appointment, and the Nurse will speak with you privately about your concern and recommend a plan for follow up, which may include an appointment with a physician or a specialized nurse. For information about resources available to students who have experienced sexual violence, please visit our Visible@X website.
Confidentiality
Please note that the services you receive at the Health and Counselling Centre are confidential. We do not release information to your parents, your professors or anyone else without your permission or unless legally required to do so.
