PROFILE: PHEERAWICH

I’m Pheerawich Chitnelawong. This is my StFX story.

I never saw the actual campus at all when I decided to come to StFX. I took a leap of faith, not knowing what laid ahead. What I can say is that my experience here is heavy, too heavy not to share.

Over the course of the year StFX has been my home, far far away from home. Moving into a foreign place that uses the language I almost never spoke was overwhelming, but not for long.

I moved into a residence with 40 men, hardly understood what they said, but after a week, we became a big family. Living in a small residence I get to know not only the names and faces, but also who they are. Friends are a big part of my life here. They always encourage me to be who I am and to express it.

I feel secure and that creates a great study environment. Academics here help me build a strong foundation, with small classes and accessible professors. I am confident to say that all my professors know me and I visit them in their office if I have any questions or just to seek advice.

It is only a five minute walk or less to anywhere on campus.

There are many societies ranging from sports to even consciousness study. If you don’t find any in your interest, create your own. During the year I joined a few small societies with around 15 people in each, so I always got involved and made the most of it.

There are tons of opportunities. Many of my friends work for the university in various jobs and there are lots of co-op and exchange programs. This summer I’m doing research for the physics department. It is really helping me prepare for the years to come.

To me, StFX is the door to an endless world of possibilities, a place to fully utilize my potential and push my limits.
