You Belong Here
The Dr. Agnes Calliste Academic and Cultural Centre is a vibrant, inclusive space dedicated to the success, empowerment, and celebration of Black students at St. Francis Xavier University. Located in Mount Saint Bernard, Room 204, the centre honours the legacy of Dr. Agnes Calliste – a trailblazing scholar, mentor, and social activist whose nearly 30-year tenure in the StFX Sociology Department left a profound impact on the university and broader community.
More than just a physical space, the centre fosters a deep sense of belonging, offering academic support, cultural programming, and community connection. It is home to the Black Student Advisor and Centre Manager, and provides peer mentorship, leadership opportunities, and events that celebrate African heritage and culture.
Celebrating African Heritage Month
Every February, African Heritage Month is celebrated in Nova Scotia to highlight the culture and history of African Nova Scotians. This year's African Heritage Month theme is Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power, and Progress. Visit the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia to learn more.
