Re: Academic and Return to Residence Schedules for January

To the campus community,
Earlier this afternoon, on behalf of the Academic Leadership Team, I presented recommendations to the University’s Senate related to the schedule for the completion of exams from the fall term and the beginning of the 2022 winter academic term.
I am pleased to report that, after thoughtful discussion, Senate approved a plan that has an on-line exam period early in the new year to allow students to complete all exams deferred from December. Classes will resume on January 17th online after the deferred exam period ends. In-person classes will resume on Monday, January 31st.
Key dates related to exams and the upcoming academic term are presented below:

There are some exceptions to the above, including some courses offered in the Faculties of Education and the Rankin School of Nursing. I’ve listed those exceptions below for your reference.
The January online exam schedule is being developed and will be distributed this week.
Return to Residence begins Friday, January 28th
As mentioned above, there will be no classes scheduled on Friday, January 28th to accommodate students returning to residence in preparation for in-person classes to begin on Monday, January 31st. University Housing will be sending more information to students regarding move-in protocols as they become available.
I want to publicly acknowledge and thank the Academic Leadership Team for their tireless work in developing the recommendations that were presented to Senate.

LIST OF EXCEPTIONS
Faculty of Education:
- BEd off-campus cohorts will begin on-line January 14
- Math Certificate courses will begin online January 15
- The PhD course #GEDU 9005/EDUC 8053 (online) in the Faculty of Education, which is part of the Inter-institutional PhD program, will begin in accordance with the start date set out by Acadia University.
- The Diploma in Adult Education (online) course offerings maintain their January 11 start date.
Rankin School of Nursing:
- NURS 334 students return to campus, or community of practice to start practice, on January 17.
- NURS 440 students return to campus, or community of practice to start final senior practicum, on January 10.
- The original start date of online courses for distance nursing programs (including the online BScN) will remain as originally scheduled.
Students in these programs with questions should contact their dean or director.
