Academic Vice President and Provost Review

Dr. Amanda Cockshutt will complete her first term as Academic Vice President & Provost (AVPP) on June 30, 2027, and has indicated her interest in standing for reappointment for a second term. As part of the university’s process for the renewal of the AVPP, a Review Committee has been struck by the Office of the President. Part of the Committee’s process is to review feedback from the campus community and beyond on the performance of the AVPP. We therefore write to request your input as part of the review process.

The Review Committee welcomes your comments and/or recommendations and encourages you to submit these for consideration. In providing your input, please provide the context in which you have interacted with Dr. Cockshutt. The Review Committee would also appreciate receiving specific examples that might characterize your assessment of Dr. Cockshutt’s leadership and management capabilities in relationship to your view of her suitability for a second term as AVPP.

To submit your comments, please complete the form here before March 30, 2026, at 4:00 pm. To help ensure the Review Committee has accurate representation from all departments, and this review process remains transparent for all involved, anonymous submissions will not be considered. All submissions will be forwarded to the Review Committee after names, departments, and other identifying details have been removed. Please be assured that all submission information will be kept confidential.

Overview of the Role of the AVPP

The AVPP is the University’s chief academic officer providing strategic and collegial leadership. They steward the Academic Plan and provide oversight to Faculties, research, enrolment, internationalization, and key academic institutes including the Coady International Institute, the McKenna Centre for Leadership, and the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government. The AVPP works collaboratively with the President, Vice-Presidents, Deans and university senior leadership to champion teaching excellence, uphold academic standards, lead program development and assessment, shape academic planning, attract and retain outstanding and diverse faculty, and advance equity-driven institutional change with a strong commitment to inclusion, intersectionality, decolonization, indigenization, reconciliation, and Indigenous education. With data driven understandings, financial acuity and an entrepreneurial mindset, the AVPP aligns resources with academic priorities, oversees faculty affairs including appointments, tenure, promotion, and collective bargaining, and plays a central role in enrolment growth and internationalization strategies. They maintain a visible and engaged campus presence, foster meaningful relationships with stakeholders, strengthen community and institutional partnerships.
