The StFX Art Gallery proudly presents "Our World in Photos - Connections," the international debut of a children's photovoice project created by young Bardi Jawi artists in Western Australia. Through four themes - Feelings, Relationships, Country, and Interests - the project uses visual storytelling to support well-being, self-expression, and resilience.

The StFX Art Gallery thanks the School of Population Health, Curtin University, and the Ardyaloon Community for their work on and in this exhibition.

This exhibition and all related programming and events are generously sponsored by the Coady Institute.

Pink triangle day - a talk by Robin Metcalfe

Pink Triangle Day
Robin Metcalfe
Feb. 10, 7 pm
StFX Art Gallery, MULH 2002

Valentine's Day, 1979, marked a key legal victory for the Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Pink Triangle Press, which produced "The Body Politic," faced possible prison for publishing about intergenerational same-sex relationships. Judge Sid Harris chose that day to deliver a not-guilty verdict. A national Queer conference that summer made February 14th a national gay and lesbian holiday. Pink Triangle Day honours both that victory and the historical Queer & Trans+ communities the Nazis forced to wear the pink triangle in concentration camps. Robin Metcalfe, creator of Pink Triangle Day, will speak about the histories that underly Pink Triangle Day.

Robin Metcalfe (he/him) is a writer, curator, cultural activist, and community historian of Acadian and Newfoundland ancestry, living in Sheet Harbour Passage (Weijuik) on Nova Scotia's Eastern shore. His writing has been published on four continents and in six languages. In half a century of Queer activism, mainly in Halifax, Robin has assembled one of Atlantic Canada's largest Queer archives. In 1979, on his initiative, the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Rights Coalition proclaimed February 14th a Queer holiday, Pink Triangle Day. Halifax Pride honoured him as Honorary Grand Marshall in 2010, and he is the Chair of Sheet Harbour Pride.

Light refreshments will be provided.

This talk is co-hosted by the Human Rights and Equity Office and the StFX Art Gallery.
