Exchange Opportunities
Application Process
The deadline to submit applications for the exchange program is January 15, 2025.
Eligibility
Students may apply for the exchange program if they meet the following criteria:
- 70% average in the most recent semester of study
- Completed 30 credits prior to going on exchange
- Not on academic prohibition at the time of application or at any time before departure
- Not completing an exchange in the final semester of study at StFX
Select a University Abroad
Speak with former students about their exchange experiences and research universities where you could do your exchange. StFX has several partner universities around the world where you can do your exchange while continuing to pay regular StFX tuition fees.
If students wish to study at a school which is not listed as one of the StFX partner universities, they will have to get the institution approved by the exchange office and will be enrolled in that university as a visiting student. If approved, students will pay visiting student fees directly to that university rather than normal StFX tuition fees. To transfer credits from your exchange, the university you choose must offer courses that can be used toward your degree at StFX.
Students are encouraged to speak with an Education Abroad Advisor about participating in the student exchange program to ensure the program will fit into their degree plan at StFX.
Complete Application Documents
The student exchange program application consists of:
Completed Application Form (Including Letter of Motivation and Preliminary Study Plan)
Two References - Submitted directly by the referees to @email. (One Academic and One Academic or Professional)
Professional Resume
Please submit application form and professional resume to the Education Abroad Advisor as one PDF document.
Post Application Selection Interview
After the application period is complete, applicants will be invited to participate in a short interview where they will be asked questions related to their commitment to undertaking an exchange, and their suitability for the program. More information will be provided on this after the application period is complete.
The interviews will be conducted by a nomination committee consisting of:
- Education Abroad Advisor
- Director of Internationalization
- StFX Dean or Faculty Member
The committee will then approve or refuse applicants for the exchange program based on both the application and interview. After this process is complete, the approved applications will be sent to the students’ respective Deans for final approval.
Approval Process
The students will then receive a letter of offer, signed by their respective Deans, and the process of applying to the partner university will begin. If the student accepts the exchange placement offer, the Education Abroad Advisor will nominate the students for their respective partner university.
The partner university makes the final decision on accepting the nominated students for exchange. If, for any reason, a student cannot be nominated to the universities they are applying for, they can be offered a placement at another university, provided there are available placements.
Please Note:
- If a student is found to have provided inaccurate information about themselves at any time during the application process, they forfeit the right to participate in the exchange program.
- If a student applies after the January 15th application deadline, or fails to meet the eligibility requirements, the Office of Internationalization reserves the right to reject the application.
