Psychology Degree Requirements

Psychology

Degrees offered:

  • BA in Psychology
  • BA Honours in Psychology
  • BSc in Psychology
  • BSc Honours in Psychology
  • BSc Joint Honours in Psychology

BA and BSc Major Program

Candidates must follow the degree regulations in chapters 4 and 7 and complete:

a)   PSYC 101, 102
b)   PSYC 291, 292; six additional credits of 200-level lab courses (must include six credits from 211, 221, 222, 225, 231, 232, 261, 262, 298)
c)   12 PSYC credits at the 300 or 400 level*; and
d)   6 additional PSYC credits

Students contemplating pursuing an honours degree are strongly recommended to complete PSYC 291, 292 in second year.

*400 level courses are restricted to students in the honours program or students who have a minimum average of 70.

BA and BSc Honours Program

Candidates must follow the degree regulations in chapter 4 or 7 and complete:

a)   PSYC 101, 102
b)   PSYC 291, 292; six additional credits of 200-level lab courses (must include six credits from 211, 221, 222, 225, 231, 232, 261, 262, 298); 301, 302, 394
c)   6 PSYC credits at the 400 level
d)   PSYC 391 (non-credit), 491 (non-credit) and PSYC 490

Psychology as a Subsidiary Subject

If psychology is selected as a subsidiary subject by an honours student in the BA program, 24 PSYC credits are required. These credits must include PSYC 301, 302.

Minor Program

24 credits of PSYC.

BSc Programs

Candidates must follow the degree regulations in chapter 7 and should note the following:

a)   PSYC courses are considered science courses only when they are taken as part of a major or honours subject in the BSc program
b)   BSc major program must include BIOL 111, 112; MATH 106 or 126, 107 or 127, and 12 additional credits in science courses (excluding PSYC)
c)   BSc honours degree program must include BIOL 111, 112; CHEM 101, 102; MATH 106 or 126, 107 or 127; and 6 additional credits in science courses (excluding PSYC)
d)   For the BSc honours program, the 18 credits of electives approved by the department normally consist of courses in PSYC or in other science subjects

BSc with Joint Honours

Students enrolled in joint honours programs in which psychology is one of the two honours subjects must take PSYC 231/232.

Applied Forensic Psychology

Degrees offered:

  • BA in Applied Forensic Psychology
  • BA Honours in Applied Forensic Psychology
  • BSc in Applied Forensic Psychology
  • BSc Honours in Applied Forensic Psychology

BA and BSc Major in Applied Forensic Psychology Program

Candidates must follow the degree regulation in chapters 4 and 7 and complete:

a) PSYC 101, 102, 110
b) PSYC 257, 291, 292; six additional credits of 200-level lab courses (must include six credits from 211, 221, 222, 225, 231, 232, 261, 262, 298)
c) PSYC 356, 376, 379, 381, 382, 457; one of PSYC 333, 364, 365, 367, 368, 372, 373, 378, 387.

BA and BSc Honours in Applied Forensic Psychology 
Program

Candidates must follow the degree regulation in chapters 4 and 7 and complete:

 a) PSYC 101, 102, 110; PSYC 291, 292; six additional credits of 200-level lab courses (must include six credits from 211, 221, 222, 225, 231, 232, 261, 262, 298); PSYC 257, 301, 302, 356, 394; one of 333, 364, 365, 367, 368, 372, 373, 378, 387; PSYC 376, 379, 381, 382
b) PSYC 457, 3 credits at the 400 level
c) PSYC 391 (non-credit), 491 (non-credit) and PSYC 490

Note: PSYC 101 and 102 are prerequisites for all other psychology courses except PSYC 394.
