Research

Dr. Peter McCormick's primary research interest is visual attention and the relationship between consciousness and attention, and has a lab that is currently conducting experiments that examine the manner in which people orient their attention to various spatial locations in response to visual cues. He is interested in both perception without awareness (colloquially referred to as 'subliminal' perception) and unconscious influences of memory. Most recently, he has embarked on a program examining perceptual learning, focusing on three tasks: first, the learning that is involved in the determining of spatial relations, learning that is involved in the identification of objects, and the learning involved in the rapid subitisation of numerosity.
