Research Interests:
There are two main research programs. The first program combines fractals, topology, and geometry. My doctoral thesis focused on the development of new theoretical ways to analyze fractals. Specifically, it involved an analysis of a special class of fractal, known as fractal trees, using methods of computational topology. I continue to extend this work to other classes of fractals such as the Sierpinski relatives. This includes methods that involve geometrical aspects like the convex hulls. My second main program of research focuses on the interconnectedness of mathematics, art, and education. This research is done collaboratively with an interdisciplinary research group that includes a mathematics educator, a public school teacher, and a weaver. This research explores the ways that making art and doing math can inform and enrich the other.
