CEA @ X 2017
In June 2017, the 51st annual conference of the Canadian Economics Association (CEA) was hosted by the Department of Economics at StFX. This is the largest economics conference in Canada, and attracted almost 800 visitors from across Canada and from 25 different countries.
The 2017 edition marked the first time that this event was held in a small town and at a primarily undergraduate university. However, the hard work of the entire University community, especially from our tireless students, made the meetings a resounding success. Most importantly, it showed that it was feasible to host academic events of this magnitude on our campus.
Many prominent keynote speakers delivered lectures during the conference, several of which were recorded:
- Nathan Nunn (Harvard): On the Importance of Culture and Context for Economic Development
- Nancy Gallini (UBC): Do Patents Work? Thickets, Trolls and Antibiotic Resistance
- Marcel Boyer (U de Montreal): Challenges and Pitfalls in Competition Policy Implementation
- Diego Restuccia (Toronto): Misallocation and Aggregate Productivity Across Time and Space
- Matilde Bombardini (UBC): Beyond Campaign Contributions: The Tools of Political Influence
