Fraser Hollins has been praised as "one of Canada's great bassists." (Don Thompson, Canadian Jazz Multi-Instrumentalist).

The StFX Music Department presents bassist, FRASER HOLLINS as the final Visiting Artist Series performer of the 2024-2025 academic year. Fraser will be joined onstage by Music faculty Kenji Omae, Adrean Farrugia, and Anthony Michelli, with guest performances by Kevin Brunkhorst and Jessica Lalonde.

He’s performed around the world and has appeared on over 40 recordings with bands featuring national and international artists such as Jeff Johnston, Christine Jensen, Jan Jarczyk, Don Thompson, Ingrid Jensen, Brad Turner, Geoffrey Keezer, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Monder, Dave Liebman, Donny McCaslin, Jon Cowherd, Brian Blade, Danilo Perez, Jerry Bergonzi, and Seamus Blake.

With the release of Aerial in 2010, his first recording as a leader featuring longtime musical cohorts Joel Miller, Steve Amirault, and Karl Jannuska, Fraser presented his most personal vision of jazz. The 11 evocative compositions on the album offer a compelling journey through a diverse landscape of colorful musical vistas that is “continually captivating” (Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen).

His second recording, Treehouse, was released in 2019 and features Joel Miller, Jon Cowherd, and Brian Blade. The band did a week-long tour of Quebec and Ontario in March 2022. In the Fall of 2021, Fraser formed his band The Phoenix, featuring Samuel Blais, Carlos Jiménez, and Rich Irwin.

Fraser’s most recent musical ventures have included a new double guitar quartet called The Rite of Strings, with Carlos Jiménez, Kenny Bibace, and Alain Bourgeois.
